Good Morning all!  Hope everyone is having a great week!  I know I am a little later than normal putting out my monthly schedule for Copic Classes but I have been a little busy with some commissioned work for my in-laws.  However, I am here now and ready to go!  So, the following are the dates and times I will be teaching in the Bonney Lake & Monroe, WA. September 5 1-3pm Coloring with Marcy (this is an open workshop where you can come and work on your individual Copic coloring projects and have me available there for assistance with your current projects)

If you cannot make one of these classes I do offer them every month and try to do some day, evening and weekend classes.  It can be difficult at times to get varied times because there are so many different classes going on, so sometimes I can make other arrangements for you to do a one on one class with me if you have previously taken one of my other classes.  If this is something you are interested in because you cannot make one of my classes fit into your schedule, please e-mail me at marcylmadeit@comcast.net and let's see what we can work out.

Halloween Card Added to September Classes at Bonney Lake

Hello all!  Just wanted to let you know that I will soon be issuing my September class schedule for September for the Bonney Lake Ben Franklin Store.  I will be adding a new card this month so you can start on those Halloween cards.  I know.....Halloween already?  Yep....it's closer than you think!  Here is a sneak peak of the card we will be making. 

 

The image I used is from Northwoods Rubber Stmps from Ben Franklin Crafts.  

Copics used were:  E08,YR14,YR16,Y17 (pumpkins) YG63,YG61,Y13 (leaves) E31,E33 (ground) BG0000 (sky).  I added Stickles stardust to the bird, although it doesn't look that great in the picture.  I also colored the pleated organza ribbon with my Copic YR14 marker so it would match my image.  Hope you all have a great evening!

Copic Classes Expanding to Monroe Ben Franklin

It is now official!  Starting in September I will be teaching Copic Classes at the Monroe Ben Franklin Store!  I know it is quite a drive, but I am really excited to be able to share my love of this craft with even more people!  Spread the word.....I would love to see the classrooms filled! I will be starting with 2 Copic Cards 101 Classes in September.  Why wait so long to start you ask?  We need to ensure we have enough time to market the classes and get the word out to all of the customers that may be interested in taking the classes.  I just finished the sample card I will be teaching for the Monroe Store.  It is a beautiful rubber stamp by Inkadinkado called Ribbon and Rose.   I used the following Copic colors:  R89, R39, R29, R27; YG61,YG63,YG67 and added Stickles stardust to the whited flowers.     I will be sending the sample off to the store but wanted to get it on my blog so you all could get a look.  The classes in September are scheduled for:  September 21 1-3pm and September 25 12-2pm.  The cost of the class is $30 plus supplies.  I would love to see you there.  You can register for the class in store or online here.

Tool Time Reminder - 20% Off Copic Markers

Saturated Canary Rapunzel Card

Good morning everyone!  Today I am sharing a card that is on display this month for the hair classes I am teaching at Ben Franklin Crafts.  As a class we are not coloring this image but I use it to show the techniques I use for coloring hair.  I really adore this image by Krista Smith....ok, I love all images by Krista Smith.  That is one talented lady right there!  And so generous too!  The image was colored with copics and made into a "Magic Card".  I forgot to take pictures I the inside so will have to update this post at a later date.

Cupcake Gift Card Holder Class

Hello all!  Hope all is well with you!  Next month at Ben Franklin, in addition to my regular Copic Marker classes, I will be teaching how to make this adorable cupcake gift card holder!  With the huge cupcake rage we are in, it seems fitting to be able to give someone a gift like this with a gift card to a cupcake shop, a craft store, a coffee shop, or whatever suits their fancy!  I love that you can make these in any colors you want - girlie or even masculine (think adding burlap  or flannel would work for a guy)?  If you are in the area, I hope you will come and join me for an afternoon of fun.  The class will be held August 1st at 1:30pm  You can register in store or online here at Ben Franklin Classes (just look for the Cupcake Class).  The schedule will be going up soon for August, so keep your eyes peeled!

Coloring Hair & Copics - A Picture Tutorial

1.    First stamp your image using copic-friendly ink of choice - I prefer Memento Tuxedo   Black ink (or print out image if using a digital image).  The image I am using is a digital image from Some Odd Girl that I cropped for a  tutorial/class on coloring hair.  She is called Alice Mae.

2.     I start with my darkest color.  In the sample below I used E25 as my darkest color.  Color the deepest shadows and roots using a very light flicking motion or feathered stroke.  Your strokes should always begin at the darkest part of the hair and brush outward.  You should also color in the same direction as the strands of hair.

3.     Take your next darkest color or your mid-tone, in this case E31, and very lightly flick from about a third of the way into the darker color toward the "highlight", covering part of the strokes you already colored. 

4.     At this point, I go back to the darkest color (E25) and darken up the edges again using the very light flicking motion. 

5.     Then I go back in with mid-tone, E31,  and blend the E25 edges out using the very light flicking motion. You could be done at this point if you prefer a lot of highlights or white space.  For this class or tutorial, I chose to continue on with another step. 

6.   For the final step I used the lightest color, in this case E50, to lightly blend out the mid-tone color E31.  Again I used a very light flicking motion starting about a third of the way into the mid-tone color and flicking into the lightest area.  I used very little of the E50 to blend.

   

7.     I finished coloring the entire head of hair using the same technique throughout.

July Copic Classes at Ben Franklin

Hello everyone!  Hope this beautiful day has brought a smile to your face!

I have decided this month to start a class series around some basic Copic skills like hair, skin, shadows and light source techniques.  You do not have to take all of the classes or take them in order.  They are all individual and do not build upon one another, so if you need to just work on hair techniques then that would be the class for you. 

My classes this month are $20 each with the exception of the Tile Class, which is $22 to cover the cost of the tiles and supplies (so you don't have to run around trying to purchase the tiles but can enjoy the sunny weather instead).
